Pickens Academy Welcomes New Principal Michele Banks

Pickens Academy proudly announces the appointment of Michele Banks as the new Principal, effective July 18, 2024. Michele Banks succeeds Headmaster Jason Moore and was selected unanimously by the Board of Directors following a thorough review of the candidate pool.

The Board of Directors expresses their excitement about Michele Banks’ appointment. “Pickens Academy is thrilled to welcome Mrs. Banks as our new principal. With 19 years of experience in education, including 15 years as a dedicated teacher at our school, she is exceptionally well-prepared for this role. Her recent completion of a Master’s in Instructional Leadership further enhances her qualifications,” says the Board.

 

Vice President Mr. Phil Gentry adds, “Mrs. Banks brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position. Her extraordinary leadership has been evident in her interactions with faculty, staff, and students. The Board of Trustees is confident in her abilities and dedication, and we believe she is the ideal candidate to guide our school into the future.”

 

The Board is enthusiastic about the future under Mrs. Banks’ leadership and anticipates continued growth and success for Pickens Academy.

Professional Summary

Michele Banks holds a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University and a Master of Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.

Since 2009, she has served as a fourth-grade teacher at Pickens Academy. Before joining Pickens Academy, Banks taught junior high and high school math at Central Academy, her alma mater, and directed the daycare program for children from newborn to five years old at First Baptist Church in Macon.

Her professional achievements include being named AISA Class A Teacher of the Year for 2020-2021, receiving the Noxubee County Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball Hall of Fame Award in 2020, and being nominated for AISA Teacher of the Year 2015-2016 by the Pickens Academy students and staff. Banks has held various roles at Pickens Academy, including serving as President of the faculty and staff, participating in the SACS Accreditation Committee (2017-2018), acting as Curriculum Co-coordinator, and recently serving as the Accreditation Chair (2022-2023).

Family

Michele Banks and her husband, Johnathan, are residents of Crawford, Mississippi, and active members of Crawford Methodist Church. Their two children, Braedon and Presley, are students at Pickens Academy. Braedon, a sophomore, is involved in football and baseball, while Presley, a sixth-grader, participates in cheerleading and is a member of the Marching Pirate Auxiliary.
